Guestbook May 8, 2024 According to Wikipedia , a guestbook is a page that lists people that visited some place, both physically and digitally. In the 90’s and 2000’s people was creating programs in CGI; virtual guestbooks, webrings and photologs were common in that time. This is not common these days, only some people use this technology. I’m one of these people. I made a guestbook written in shell. It’s a simple script and uses CSV as database. Maybe I’ll add new features in the future but I want to keep it minimalist. You can find the source code here . Some people says CGI is an old technology. I agree, it’s a very old technology but very useful in some cases. Newsraft: Much more minimal than Newsboat May 8, 2024 Everytime I reinstall Slackware I imagine the compilation time of each program I’ll install. Some programs take more time to compile than others, and that is normal. But in the last days I noted that Newsboat was taking more time to compile than usually and added a dependency: Rust . I’m not a fan of Rust, but programs written in Rust usually took an acceptable compile time. Except Newsboat. Newsboat is a RSS/Atom feed reader for terminals, based in Newsbeuter. Newsboat is written in C++ and Rust, being most part of the code rewritten in Rust. Then I started searching other alternatives and a friend on IRC recommended me Newsraft . Newsraft is a feed reader inspired by Newsboat, but minimal and light on resources. In the first time I compiled I became fascinated by the short compilation time: less than 20 seconds! I immediately ditched Newsboat. Rebooted March 10, 2024 As you can see, I’ve just ‘rebooted’ the CSS. What is a Reboot? A Reboot is a complete redesign of a website. This site provides a list of websites that rebooted their design. Unfortunately, the site is dead since 2007. Would be nice to have it nowadays =) I can make a similar thing with CGI but it would have no utility, because people don’t care about design and user experience, they always use an ugly flat, generic, ‘responsive’ design since 2015. There would be no site in the list. Latest posts Rebooted again Guestbook Newsraft: Much more minimal than Newsboat Rebooted Archives May 2024 March 2024 Categories All content is under the CC0 .
