Topic 18 First Debian Conference Thierry LARONDE Keywords Debian HURD boot-floppies, build-daemon, debconf, packages-pools Motivation The First Debian Conference will take place at Bordeaux from the 5th to the 9th of July 2000, profiting from the Libre Software Meeting organised by ENSERB and ABUL, and supported by FSF and APRIL, which is being held there at that time. The aim of the conference is to gather together Debian developers and advanced users, in one place (Bordeaux) -- at the same moment in time (from the 5th to the 9th of July 2000) -- and with the same single goal (to further the aims of Debian and restriction-free software). For the first time, "Debian" as an organisation will take form as a physical entity in its own right. Overall, this assembly is both a working meeting and an opportunity to get together with others; not only other like-minded Debian enthusiasts, but also other notables of the Libre Software world, specifically, users (open presentations to the public will be organised). Sub-topics Debian and its Users (the Debian user-base) general overview and specific characteristics of the Debian distribution; Debian's future development; Woody using Debian in the corporate workplace, or as a basis for derived distributions Debian and the Free World ;) the Debian GNU/HURD distribution; conference on the HURD kernel How Debian works the quality control processes at the heart of Debian becoming a Debian developer automated installation tools : debconf boot-floppies putting together package-pools Program The conference programme will consist of presentations, general and technical talks / lectures, BOF groups and coding parties.
